I went this route because they don't seem to have much transcription work at the moment. The route I've chosen is to go on staff and work as a "live" typist for people who are deaf so can't hear the meeting their in or are physically disabled so can't take note or keep up as quick. They pay £65p per audio min for audio transcription as adhoc work but if you join as staff you get slightly less but they give you a helath plan and training. So if anyone is interseted they should give them a call. My mate told me to ask them for work even though they hadn't advertised that they needed anyone and the gave me work. Since my last post on this thread, I've started to work for TRI UK Ltd. I'd say give them a go to make up your own mind but be prepared to take the criticism. From time to time a sarcastic email would be sent out outlining all the 'issues' with transcriptions, fair enough, they are working in a competitive market but again, felt like you were worthless. Sometimes I would say I was availbale for a 60 min file and they would send through a 90 min file which would add extra pressure if they wanted it back within a few hours. The deadlines were also very tight, very often less than 24 hours to turn around a poor quality audio file. On top of that you were given a score of your work which when you had spent hours working on to be 'criticicised' was very un-motivating. Very often the audio was very poor and it sometimes took several hours to type up a one hour file which is like working for next to nothing. I work for other transcription companies now which pay a minimum of 55p a minute and some as high as 80p a minute. They only pay 42p per audio minute (£25 per audio hour) of typing which might sound a lot but it is the lowest I have come across. I worked for Take Note for a few months - they are a legit company and do pay you each month so they cannot be faulted there.
